I watch as Odysseus makes his way to his castle. I have disguised him as a beggar once more so that he may test the suitors. I know these men are arrogant and they will be rude to him. Although I know it will probably happen, I don’t want a fight and it frustrates me because I know Odysseus will want one. As Odysseus comes to the castle where the suitors, Antinous, a very arrogant suitor, immediately starts making fun of Odysseus and calling him a pest. Everyone here knows to always be kind to strangers because anyone could be a god in disguise. Even after Antinous is told that what he is doing isn’t a good idea, he still acts rude. This irritates me that one man can be so far above others that he can act this way. There is a challenge deciding whom Penelope will marry. I am relieved that Penelope has not fallen for these men’s tricks. I gave him some of my wisdom and courage to make him strong and be able to outsmart the suitors. I know how arrogant they are and don’t want them. Odysseus attempts this challenge and succeeds. I knew he would win because he is shooting his own bow. The suitors are still being arrogant and rude and this frustrates me. They still call him names and criticize him and I am getting mad. I don’t like how Odysseus shot Antinous. Yes, he was rude but that doesn’t mean he needs to die. I have always tried to prevent unjust war and fighting. Odysseus’ identity is now known but unfortunately, he still wants a fight. Eurymachus tries to reason with Odysseus. He tries to tell Odysseus the men will pay him back and should be spared. Odysseus should have taken this offer and I am so mad that he did not. This was the perfect chance to avoid a fight but Odysseus just had to start one. Because of his refusal, Eurymachus tries to get all the others to fight and tries to kill Odysseus. He is shot and dies, and this begins the fight. I had hoped this would have happened but I am fighting along side Odysseus and all the others on his side. All the suitors are now dead and we have won. I look around at all the bodies. I am ashamed I let this happen but I am too late. I am just relieved this is finally over.
